基于上述情况,近年来国内外旋转运动用O形圈进行了广泛深入的研究。为了避免出现焦耳热效应,关键在于根据橡胶的性能来正确地选择设计O形圈的结构参数,主要是O形圈的拉伸量和压缩率。根据实验,将旋转运动用O形圈设计成内径与旋转轴直径相等或稍大些,一般大3%~5%,在安装O形圈时,从内径向里压缩,并将断面的压缩量也设计得小一些,一般约为5%。并且,尽量采用受热量影响小的密封材料,充分考虑O形圈安装处的散热问题。这样就使O形圈的工作情况大为改善,可应用于高转速达4m/s的旋转轴的密封。
近年来又出现了耐热氟橡胶和耐磨聚氨酯橡胶,并且对橡胶元件工作的焦耳热效应有了更深入的了解,并针对此问题研究解决方案,设计出了新的O形圈密封结构,使O形圈能够更好的应用与高速、高压的旋转运动。
O形密封圈由于其具有体积小,结构简单、成本低、工艺性能好、适用范围广泛等特点,正广泛地在旋转运动式密封装置中推广。
O型圈设计、使用不当会加速它的损坏,丧失密封性能。实验表明,如密封装置各部分设计合理,单纯地提高压力,并不会造成O型圈的破坏。在高压、高温的工作条件下,O型圈破坏的主要原因是O型圈材料的变形和O型圈被挤入密封间隙而引起的间隙咬伤O型圈在运动时出现扭曲现象。
