千手千眼之形象、姿态、持物、印象等变化很多，主要有三面、十一面等等，手臂则有二、四、八、二十五手和四十手诸种，更有密匝如数作成千只手的，如大足石窟中宋代石雕、开封大相国寺、莫高窟元代壁画，观音千手皆现。



敦煌千手经变于盛唐，出现有单、三、十一面及五十一面观音等，僧人辑成《秘藏记》中载有二十七面像，而京都法性寺有二十七面观音立像，奈良金峰山寺与兵库清澄寺中有二十七面绢画像。



千手像的法器，主要为四十正大手所持执 ，以示息炎、降服、祈愿、成功种种表徽。《千手经》中载：若为富饶种种珍财资具者，当于如意珠手；若为腹中种种病者，当于宝钵手；若为降服一切鬼神者，当于宝剑手；如此等等。




这是一幅以十一面千手千眼菩萨为本尊的新勉唐派风格的唐卡，其大慈大悲之心，以千手护持众生，千眼观照人间。该唐卡长76厘米，宽57厘米，质地为棉布矿物胶彩外部浮雕彩绘漆金。主尊为十一面千手千眼观音，也称大悲观音，有时还称为"十一面佛"。其观音前方三面呈慈悲相，代表宝部;左方三面呈嗔怒相，代表金刚部;右方三面亦呈慈悲相，代表莲花部;后方一面呈忿怒相，代表(摩羯)羯磨部;顶部一面为，呈寂静相，代表佛部。胸前双手合十，身披璎珞，立于莲花台上。唐卡周围上部中间为，左上有阿底峡、莲花生和宗喀巴，右上有喇嘛、法王和弥拉日巴像。下部为绿度母、白度母，中为六臂玛哈嘎啦和其他。此幅唐卡菩萨的法相慈祥端庄，神态内摄，其服饰华丽而不失优雅，手臂的配置繁而不乱，整体让人感觉清远而高雅，是一件可作为佛堂主尊的佳作。
