开元通宝是唐高祖武德四年（621年）铸行的一种货币，是唐代流行时间长，重要的流通货币。币面上下右左有“开元通宝”四字，又有人上右下左回环读作“开通元宝”，有说此为为后世铜币以“通宝”或“元宝”为名的由来。
